New to massage therapy?
If you’re new to massage therapy you’re probably wondering how best to prepare for your first massage experience. To help you get the most out of your massage, we have answered the most common new client queries. Preparing you for the most comfortable and enjoyable massage experience possible.
No matter which massage treatment you have booked in for, you’re sure to be adequately prepared after discovering the answers to the most common client questions.
Can I eat before my massage?
We recommend that all our clients have a light snack at least an hour before treatment. Massage lowers your blood sugar levels and improves digestion which will make you hungry. The key is to keep it light. A heavy meal prior to your massage will lead to delayed digestion and bloating. To avoid any pain or discomfort during treatment, please leave a reasonable amount of time prior to massage for food to be properly digested.
What should I wear?
It’s always best to wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing. Even if you’re booked in for an Indian Head Massage, relaxation and comfort is a vital part of the massage therapy experience. Any type of facial/head massage is advisable to come with no makeup and hair tied up away from the face. Massage that requires work on the full body such as a Swedish massage or deep tissue massage is best in gym style clothing, such as, loose fitting shorts and a baggy t-shirt. Tight fighting clothing will be harder to get back on if there’s any residual massage oil left on your skin that transfers onto clothing.
Can I have a massage after drinking alcohol?
Completely avoid alcohol before and after your session as it will negatively affect the benefits of massage. Stay hydrated before and after your massage as it helps to increase blood and oxygen flow in the body. Alcohol will negatively impact hydration and increase toxins in the body. The only drink we advise is plenty of water before and after treatment.
Can I fall asleep during my massage?
We love to create a safe and relaxing environment for all our Leeds and Wakefield clients. If you drift off, we will not be offended as it means we have successfully relaxed your muscles and minds. If you do fall asleep, we recommend that you take your time getting up after your massage. Avoid standing up too quickly to prevent light-headedness.
We hope this has helped you to prepare for your very first massage treatment. If you have any more questions or would like to enquire about our services, you can contact us online or visit our treatments page.
